It’s a dreary March morning. It’s been drizzling for days, and there’s a mid-winter chill in the air. Nothing much going on, and you’d think nothing much likely to go on judging from the down-turned smiles, and general bickering going on in the back seat. Nothing much except two birthdays to be celebrated in one weekend, a waterpark, and two kids who are crazy about waterparks.
As we get closer to Niagara Falls and the Fallsview Waterpark, the level of excitement builds, and the bickering finally, subsides. My soon-to-be eight-year-old and my just-turned-ten-year-old are anticipating a weekend of fun, Niagara Falls style. Our destination, Brock Plaza Hotel, is directly connected to Fallsview Waterpark and multiple other indoor attractions. We got lots of bumps at the bumper cars, had fun at the Fun House with mirrors that do nothing for your figure, and ate chocolate at the ‘Hersey’s Factory’, all without taking a step outside. Good thing we were able to avoid the elements that day - the March rains were drenching all brave souls who ventured out. We headed into the waterpark, with some small amount of disappointment at missed opportunities out of doors. Crowds of adventurous kids, and unaware followers gathered at The Beach House with splashing water and looming slides beckoning. The tempo of ringing bells gathered speed - excitement was building, and my kids joined the group. Moments later a great downpour fell from the 1000 gallon Tipping Bucket and washed over the screaming and laughing group. Down turned smiles faded, and the downpour transported my two kids from grouches to wild waterpark adventurers. Fallsview Indoor Waterpark, known as ‘Niagara’s wettest wonder’ has 125,000 square feet of action-packed fun, and my kids were on a mission to try everything. ‘Canyon Drop’ was a favorite - forget all the twists and turns of most slides - one sharp drop leaves your stomach behind, and leaves crazy kids running back for more. ‘Sky Screamer’ and ‘Kamikaze had to be tried, if just for their names. Turned out they were as scary as their names suggested, and the kids went back for more. I retreated to the ‘Tidal Wave’ which is far more relaxing than it sounds. Happy to say a wet and wild birthday was had by all, and turns out a downpour is always welcome - as long as its indoors and not out! |
